Melanie Lynskey

 

Melanie Jayne Lynskey, born 16 May 1977 is a New Zealand actress. She is known for her portrayals of complex women and her command of American dialects, she performs predominantly in independent films. Lynskey was the recipient two Critics' Choice Awards. She also won Gracie or an New Zealand Film Award. A Hollywood Film Award. Sundance Special Jury Award. Gotham, Satellite and Saturn. Independent Spirit. Screen Actors Guild. Primetime Emmy Award nominations.





 Lynskey's debut on screen was Heavenly Creatures (1994), in which she received the New Zealand Film Award as her performance of Pauline Parker, a teenage murderess. The actress later appeared in several productions in the world, including Ever After (1998), Detroit Rock City, But I'm a Cheerleader The Cherry Orchard (all 1999), Coyote Ugly (2000), Snakeskin (2001), Shooters, Abandon, and Sweet Home Alabama (all 2002). Lynskey was a well-known character actor after having moved to the United States. She is most well-known for her role in a variety of films that are big-budget as well as small-scale, including Shattered Glass (2003) and Flags of Our Fathers (2006).





 Lynskey's lead role in Hello I Must Be Going as a depressed divorcee received an acclaim from critics in 2012 as well as a Gotham Award nomination. This was a turning point in the career of Lynskey. Subsequent lead parts in The Big Ask (2013), Happy Christmas, We'll Never Have Paris, Goodbye to All That (all 2014), The Intervention, Rainbow Time, Little Boxes (all 2016) I'm not at Home in This World Anymore, And Then I Go (both 2017), Sadie (2018), and Lady of the Manor (2021) made her an influential figure in the American independent film world.
